Choosing the right Ice Machine for your business

Choosing the right Ice Machine for your business

Depending on the industry you are in a commercial ice machine can be an important decision when it comes to the equipment you will need to run your business successfully. It’s an appliance purchase that every business in the food service industry will have to make and you want to make sure you get it right the first time.

Perth Commercial Kitchens have a wide range of quality commercial ice making machines for your business.

Which one do you need? And how do you make that decision?

Choose The Right Capacity

Working out how much ice you are going to need on an average day is a great place to start. You don’t want to purchase a commercial ice making machine, have it all set up and ready to go only to realise half way through its first day that it doesn’t make half enough of the ice you need.

Working out how many meals you serve, on average per day and then assuming you need 1.5kg of ice per meal you can give yourself a rough idea of the capacity your ice machine will need to be to function effectively for your business.

Bars and pubs will need more ice per person as the level of drinks sold will be much higher than a restaurant and most drinks will need ice.

Perth Commercial Kitchens stock a wide range of ice machines with capacities starting at 25kg all the way to the rather robust 455kg ice maker.

Ensuring you purchase an ice machine with the correct capacity can save a lot of money and time.

What Shape Ice Do You Need?

Gone are the days where the only ice cube shape you could have was a simple cube. You can now get machines that create a wide range of ice cube shapes. From bullets, to orbs and even heart shapes.

That said, cubed ice is still the most popular form of ice and we have a range of commercial cube ice makers.

Air-Cooled or Water Cooled?

Another important consideration when deciding on your commercial ice making machine is the type of compressor the machines has.

There are two types of compressor –

Air-Cooled – This compressor circulate air around the refrigeration components to remove unwanted heat from the compressor and any other heat producing elements. One minor problem with air-cooled compressors is that they produce a small amount of residual hot air around your ice making machine. You can alleviate this issue by purchasing a remote air-cooled ice machine. This means that the condensing unit is actually located away from your ice machine in an outside location.

Water-Cooled – A water-cooled compressor does the same thing as an air-cooled compressor only it circulates water instead of air. These systems require more water as they are unable to recirculate cool water around the system. This means the entire unit will need to be drained and filled with fresh water.

The more popular of the two is the air-cooled compressor as they tend to be more energy efficient.
